The electoral reforms announced by the government is a very good move and fixation of minimum educational qualification will bring some good change in future. But, I feel, the women seats should be around 45 in the beginning and the balance 40 should go to the technocrats.

Generally, a good step in the right direction. However, increasing seats is useless. We need quality legislators, not a bunch of clueless, short-sighted & self-centered people.

Efforts and determination for a democratic Pakistan are commendable.

Ban on religious extremism, increase in women seats and joint electorate system are the right steps. But we need to give more seats for women.

The way our President is leading the country through these circumstances is commendable. This is the first President who has tried to guide the masses conceptually and using sound reasoning.

The steps taken to improve the electoral system are in the right direction but not enough. More should be done.

Electoral reforms announced by the government of Pakistan is a commendable step in the right direction. Educational criteria for the candidates will certainly purge feudalists and undesired elements.

President Musharraf has taken commendable decisions. His stance on the issue of Kashmir, Indo-Pak conflict and now restoration of joint elections and educational criteria for the candidates of Assemblies will enable to bring peace, stability and tolerance in Pakistan.

President has taken balanced and wise steps which are the need of time. We all Pakistanis applaud and appreciate his bold steps. We pray and are hopeful that now Pakistan will become a democratic state.

Electoral Reforms is a step in the right direction. Increasing the number of seats for women from 25 to 60 is significant as the women population in Pakistan is 50% of the total.  Minimum qualification of election contestants to be graduation is another good move.
Rizwan Fareed

The government has announced some changes in the election system of Pakistan. As a result of change, the minimum educational qualification for candidates to contest the polls has been set as Graduation. I don’t agree with such type of steps. Everybody must have a right to contest elections.
Umar Karim Mirza
Lahore, Pakistan

Joint electoral system, additional seats for women & technocrats is indeed a step in the right direction. I hope and pray that these steps are completed successfully and we as a nation head towards stability and prosperity.
Haroon Awan,

The restoration of joint electoral system after a very long period is undoubtedly a step in the right direction. This will definitely help minorities getting back their confidence of being proud Pakistanis with equal rights.

At the same time, this restoration will bring several challenges in future.
Tahir Nasim

These electoral changes are meaningless unless a new census is done. Too many people are being deprived of their democratic right to be proportionally represented, especially in urban areas.
