Some people may think that because Iraq is an Islamic country and in case of any war, many Muslims will be the victims, so Pakistan should cast its vote against US. In my opinion, the massive demonstrations in the west have proved that it is not the war against Islam; rather it is a war of personalities.

Deciding any initiative with regard to US-Iraq issue, Pakistan must keep in mind the reward it got from its Afghan policy.

Only one thing to say in my opinion that who will be America's next target. If that will be Pakistan so where our efforts will go which was we done in supporting America's every aggression.

The People of Pakistan should call for the impeachment of George W. Bush and an end to his illegitimate regime. While you're at it, demand the immediate destruction of the weapons of mass destruction under his control and accountability before the world court.

I am ashamed of what is happening to my beloved country, and to our reputation around the world, and hope that the citizens of the world realize that many of us here in America are feeling just as compressed and manipulated as you are. Perhaps if we all stand together against the imminent US war in Iraq, we can put a stop to this madman and his lunatic handlers.

Pakistan finds itself in a very peculiar situation. It does not want to annoy its benefactor  & it cannot vote in favor of war due to domestic considerations. I think the Government of Pakistan would like to have a no policy on this issue, and must be cursing the day they were elected to Security Council. But they should take heart from position taken by French, German, Russian, and Chinese plus a number of other countries and try to
convince US its supposed ally in war on terror to abstain from war.

I am wondering that why the Muslim world is silent? This is the time to unite against anti- Muslims feelings of America. I request the Muslim world to get together against aggressive feelings of the US government against Muslims.

Pakistan should take all the possible steps to stand against the war of US with Iraq. We are all Muslims and in case of a war our Muslim brothers and sisters will suffer the post war problems and pains. How badly terrible and troublesome it would be… - most of us can not even imagine.

Besides this, I personally see no reason for Pakistan to support US this time. As even with all the extended support to attack Afghanistan, the American behavior towards US resident Pakistani immigrants is worth discussing. They are now being tortured and being swept out of all their properties and hard earned money.

For those people in whose opinion its wise to settle down to support US against a few billion dollars simply is one of the reasons why we haven’t been able to stand on our own yet. I think it inhuman and insane to settle down with US and support its attack on Iraq which will claim thousands of lives, each one of which is worth a million dollars.

Bottom line, try and keep yourself in the place where Iraqis are at the moment and then comment. US should not be provided even with a pint of support. Let’s take a step to favour what’s really right. If nothing else, we for sure will make our GOD almighty happy.

Pakistan should not support the US resolution in UN Security Counsel on its war against Iraq, because Iraq is an Islamic country and our brothers are living in Iraq. So Pakistan
should cast vote against US

So far as US attack on Iraq is concerned, Pakistan should form its foreign policy very carefully in black and white towards U.S. and Iraq crisis. It is not a time to decide country's fate with emotions. And, only Pakistan's future and its geopolitical situation kept in context in terms of whatever decision is taken by the Pakistani government

Pakistan should respect what ever UN considers right because at this very moment France, Russia and Germany are doing there best and better than the entire Muslim world. So, we should not involve ourselves directly into the war as Iraq has never been close to us. First our own safety and than others care.

As far as the Iraqi crisis is concerned I think that the Pakistani government should stand with the Iraqi people, as the government of other countries r doing n. I would also like to tell our government that the Indian government has also gone against America on Iraq crisis though they r neither Muslims nor they have good relations with the Iraqi government but still they are going by the rules of the world
but the Pakistani government is such a big chicken that they really cant even standup n tell the American government what their people want

Well, its not really matter of disarmament of Iraq, all Bush wants is the
removal of Sadam regime and induction of some puppet ruler in Iraq with strings in the US hands of the US government.

So no matter how far Iraq goes supporting the UN inspectors, Bush will still find some pretext to invade Iraq.
Pakistan, however, should NOT promise any political/strategic support to the US in their war hysteria. Pakistan should rather play a judicious role for the peaceful resolution to the US-Iraq crisis

This is a great opportunity for Pakistan to reiterate its commitment to the US and clean its image in the world. This war is not about Islam.

Saddam didn't think twice about attacking Kuwait and his Muslim brothers and sisters. So, he should be kicked out of Iraq and then the Iraqi people will be much better off.

Judging from the names under all the Forum letters, they are written mostly by Pakistanis or other Muslims living in the West, quite a few in the USA. If so many of them think that the USA and/or Britain is the enemy, either of Pakistan or Muslims, why are they still living in the country of the enemy?

I can see two reasons: either they are insincere in their opinions, and are only mouthing platitudes for other Muslims' benefit, or they are sleepers biding their time in those countries to perpetrate more acts of war like 11 September2001.

Never to be overlooked that Saddam Hussein used weapons of mass destruction in a war against a fellow Islamic country, Iran, and against some of his own citizens, as the first country to do so since the 1st World War. He didn't use an atomic bomb for the sole reason that he did not have one yet. Shall he now be permitted that option again? Please, before letting your emotions carry you away, do some serious thinking before.

Pakistan being a Muslim country should do what a true Muslim should do in difficult situations. Pakistan should try to get all the Muslim countries united against the anti-Islam powers and use their resources against these forces. Pakistan must not and I repeat MUST NOT support US aggression against any Muslim country. Pakistan government should show some vision and try to dismantle the entrapment of US, wherein the Zionist regime has entangled us into.

But our government has helped them kill thousand in Afghanistan and I am sure they will do it again in war on Iraq and we will be set on a route to punishment.

First of all, we should not forget that Iraq is a Muslim country and over there Muslims are living. So if there is any attack on Iraq, it is going to be an attack on Muslims.

So Pakistan should strongly condemn these attacks, and that the Muslim Ummah should unite and stand up against this situating that can lead to a big holocaust.

For sure, if the Muslim Ummah unites then there is no possibility for US to launch any attack on Iraq.

Pakistan shall stand for the just  stand  on  the  subject. If Pakistan made the crucial mistake of supporting war on Iraq, Pakistan will never be able to show its face  in any OIC meeting and Pakistan will forever be remembered for its treachery against a fellow Muslim country.

Pakistan should also not forget that Indian Prime Minister has openly opposed War on Iraq. If the so-called Islamic Republic of Pakistan supports war on fellow Muslim nation-Iraq, after India has openly opposed such war, Pakistan will be disgraced in the entire Muslim world as a traitor and India will use that fact to rub Pakistan’s nose in mud in front of the OIC members.

As much as I hate terrorism, I find George Bush’s war on Tiny Iraq an immoral war. More than a million lives had been lost in Iraq as a consequence of first gulf war, more than half of them infants. Is there no limit to greed and quest to control oil fields?

Pakistan should take the principled stand against this unjust and immoral war and vote a resounding NO at the Security Council.

Atique Mirza

Pakistan should take 26 billion dollars as Turkey did for its pro-war vote in the UN Security Council.  Although this would go against our emotions, but in the long run it is the best thing for Pakistan to do.  We are going to be living in a world dominated solely by the United States, might as well stay by their side.... even if we hate them!

After all, Pakistanis have to ask themselves as to how are we going to pay back the billions of dollars we owe to the IMF and World Bank?  Take the money, and if they do not offer at least as much as they did to Turkey, then we can return the favor and vote against the US in the Security Council Vote.

Moreover, I believe that this might just be a gift in disguise.  General Musharraf cannot claim any moral ascendancy since he is a military ruler.  He should bargain for a lot of money, and if he is taken for granted again by the US, then he can vote against the United States in the UN.

The government would surely adopt the policy of unimposing diplomacy, juggling to find an expression which doesn't infuriate the masters and which goes down well with the masses.

As for the masses, well it's more than obvious what they want, and this is beginning to show with the numerous anti-war rallies peppered around the country.

All that one can hope is that, optimistically, our dear president and his over-diligent cabinet (the ordinance factory!) does not come up with some 'anti-demonstration ordinance' overnight!

I would like to suggest that Pakistan should be clear in his policy whether it is with Iraq or America. But while deciding this our governors should keep the Holy book-Quran in their minds that says as to these disbeliever can never be the friends of Muslims.

Muhammad Aqib

The obvious answer should be for all the Muslim countries to say out loud ‘No’ to unjust, illegal war on Iraq by non-Muslims, who are in fact influenced, and pushed by the so-called Muslims, i.e. Ismailis, Shia Kuwait, and Kurdish: including Israeli Sharon the best friend of Bush.

So the full blame cannot be put on barbaric Bush only, he is just an evil puppet on the string.

The fact of the matter is that this is the sectarian religious dispute, where the opportunity is knocking on the doors of enemies of Islam, the non-Muslims, and the hypocrite polytheists, who wants to eliminate Islam, and convert Muslims to their own cults.

The best example of Afghanistan’s present rulers Karzai and so-called Imam e- Zaman Aga khan, who couldn’t be more happier to get rid of Islam and Taliban, that gives freedom to Afghani Ismailis to practice their Cultic religion and nasty anti-Islamic system.

Thus, the wrong concept of ‘Sects’ that developed a thousand years ago has brought chaos in Islamic world and is still going on only to kill its own brethrens.

However, the Muslim countries asTurkey, Pakistan, Bahrain, Qatar, S. Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, which are either blackmailed or bought by the bribery of millions cash, are equal partners in war crime and ‘sin’ for supporting Bush and his intended illegal war on Iraq, and should know that they will be next on the hit list, as the devil sees no friendship.

The most satisfying answer from Allah: “They plot and plan, and ‘I’ plan too, but my plan is the best plan”: Surely, ‘Allah’s WILL’ will be done.

In view of the current US-Iraq war issue, Pakistan's silence over Iraq issue would result in hurrying results.

The only way for Pakistan is to join hands with France, Germany, Belgium, Russia to raise strong voice against the war in Iraq.

Hammad Mustafa

Although Iraq doesn't have a clean record and a good reputation, but at this time it does look that Iraq is ready to cooperate with the world in all possible ways to avoid any attack. Now, if Iraq gets attacked then Pakistan can also expect to be attacked due to the following possible reasons:

1- Iraq is a Muslim Country and USA wants to eliminate any future threat from Muslims (Clash of Civilizations).

2- Iraq has a lot of oil (natural resources) that USA wants to control.

3- Or, if there is a plan to usher in American Imperialism then Iraq is also a potential target.

Now there are certain similarities between Iraq and Pakistan:

1- Both are Muslim countries-one tried to have nuclear bomb and other has one; Pakistan can also be considered a threat for USA (Clash of Civilizations).

2- Due to its geographical position, Pakistan is needed for oil and gas pipelines.

3- By controlling Pakistan and Iran, USA can have control over almost all the Muslim world.

1. Pakistan should rise to the occasion as Islamic Nuclear Power and as leader of Muslim Ummah, because Pakistan represented Islamic World in UNO at the beginning of 15th Islamic Higra Century.
2. Convene OIC meeting.
3. Make new Alliance with either Shangha Group or with those European Countries who are opposing USA on its war against Iraq.
4. All Islamic countries and NGOs of Non Islamic countries who are protesting against USA, should send civilians to Iraq as protest against USA.
5. Iraq should be given under the control of OIC who should prepare Sadam replacement.
6. Use oil as weapon.
7. Bycott American and English goods

We should look at economic fallout of the war on Iraq and seek remedies for it rather than burn our blood for a country, leadership and people who have never supported Pakistan or its claim for Kashmir being occupied  illegally by Indian. Who has been proactively supporting India on the issue. Religious leaders wanted political advantage of it which is very sad.

I think that Pakistan should realize seriously that after Iraq , there is going to be  the same attack on Iran and afterwards Pakistan. So, acting upon the saying that attack is the best form of defense, Pakistan along with Iran, Saudi Arabia and other Muslim countries must attack American naval fleet present in the Arabian sea.

Pakistan should definitely support the U.S. on the war against Iraq. We don’t need dictators like Sadam Hussain in today’s peaceful world. Besides, if other concerned neighboring countries are willing to support the US, why bother being opposed to. Iraq has never shown sympathy towards Pakistan when the issue of Kashmir comes and their strong ties with India, signals negative sentiments for us. National interest should be the only priority for Pakistan.

Every country has its own freedom, so no one has the right to interrupt anyone’s affairs. As most of the people saw on TV that US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, addressed the UN Security Council against Iraq, and showed pictures of Iraq’s sensitive military places captured through satellite. It means no place is hidden from the eyes of United. USA is watching even a single movement in every country. So, one would ask here that what is the meaning of freedom in an independent country?

After 11 September events, America said that it was terrorism and all called upon all the countries to stand united against it. But in the wake of the 9/11 carnage whatever USA did in Afghanistan, I think it was a bad and shameful example of terrorism. Now, its next target of USA barbarianism is to conquer Iraq so that it could enjoy its control over Iraq’s oil soil.

I asked Mr. President Bush as to why is he trying to make people fool in the name of war against terrorism? But he must understand that if Muslims unite, he would never find a place to breath.

I am just wondering that why the Muslim world is silent? Why we don't unite against America’s anti-Muslims feelings in disguise?

I ask the Muslim world to get together against antagonistic feelings of the US government against Muslims.

Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, UAE and Jordan are all are going to support USA for its war against Iraq, if a decision is taken in conformity with UN Resolution.  Pakistan must take the same stand as other Muslim countries are taking on the Iraq issue.

Muslim Ummah must try to understand that UN resolution means "voice of the world", and Pakistan cannot be an exception.  If there is censuses and world is unified to vote against Iraq because of the past nasty tracks of this country, Pakistan must stand with the whole world and must not isolate itself.  We must not play a religious card as well.

Sarwer Husain
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia

Till the time we don't understand the broader picture of the current crisis in the world, it would be difficult for us to make the right decision on this sensitive issue. Very briefly, the broader picture is as follows

The aim of the US government is to take steps now which will ensure that US stays as the sole super power in the world, perhaps forever. Those steps are to be taken as soon as possible before any country like Russia and/or China gets stronger enough to get at equal terms with the US once again. Hence, the popular phrase "time is running out".

The US is doing what it feels is necessary to stay as a superpower. Following are the major steps the US is taking right now:

  1. Control all vital energy resources in the world - and fuel oil is on top (using the trump card of economic sanctions, stop oil supply to any country and the economy is crippled!!)
  2. Establish very strong military bases close to Russia
  3. Establish very strong military bases close to China.

Invasion of Afghanistan has served the first two objectives. It gave them a very strong military presence on the doorsteps of Russia as well as total control over oil reserves in the north of Afghanistan and South of Trukemanistan. For the information of all readers, the president and the foreign minister of Afghanistan, instated by the US, are both former consultants of a US oil giant called Unocal.

Similarly, the invasion of Iraq is going to serve the first and the third of their objectives. Obviously, when Iraq is captured, the US will have almost total control over Middle Eastern Oil. And, since this action will take place under cover of "weapons of mass destruction", it will pave the way for the US government to then take on N. Korea, and hence establish a very strong military presence right at the doorstep of China.

To recall, not so long ago Chinese had forced a US spy plane to land in China, which was violating Chinese air space. The crew was taken as POW and the President Bush was made apologize for the sake of release of the crew. The plain was never returned to the US. Its obvious to any sane mind in the world that the US is not just sitting over it and doing nothing to prevent any country doing it again to them, let alone avert their humiliation the world over.

None of the above-mentioned objectives of the US can or could be achieved without using force. And to use force, there has to be a discernable reason acceptable to their own public as well as the rest of the world. US administration is sticking to two words to fool the world - "Terrorism" and "Weapons of Mass Destruction". However, one famous saying should not be forgotten, "one can make fool all people for some time and some people for all the time, but not all the people for all the time". Since the first Gulf war, (which was the first major step to control world oil) the US has fooled almost all the world (though some people had understood it from the very start, but their voices couldn’t be heard as loudly as those of CNN, BBC or Fox). The case now, however, is a bit different. Many, if not most, understand the US motives very well. For instance, France, Germany, and China have clearly shown their opposition to war. No matter what the Australian Premier says, the public opinion is growing stronger and stronger in Australia against the war.

Now coming over to Pakistan – a small country, ill-organised from within, poor economy and lots of internal problems. What she can do to stop the US from pursuing its objectives. All Pakistan can do is to save its own skin. President Musharraf or the Government of Pakistan is following a very simple approach to meet this aim: Do what Uncle Sam says. And, they are doing it. The other day Australian television had shown a documentary on operations of FBI in Pakistan. Being a Pakistani, it was shameful to watch how much we have compromised on our sovereignty and independence.

Ironically, we don't have another choice.

America has no rights to attack on Iraq without any approval from UNO. Basically America is trying to interrupt the inspection process in Iraq so that U.S. can plan a possible attack on Iraq.

Pakistan should just comply with what USA asks her to do, because they have great country and democracy and we are slaves of our own people.

Muhammad A Daimee,
Canada

The United Nations inspectors have been searching for evidence of weapons of mass destruction since November 2002 under Security Council resolution 1441, which orders Iraq to disclose all weapons of mass destruction and related material.

Giving the UN Security Council a progress report after 60 days of inspections in Iraq, the chief UN weapon inspector Mr. Hans Blix and the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Mr. Mohammed El-Baradei asked the Security Council to give the inspectors more time to complete their work in Iraq. But at the same time Mr. Blix observed that Iraq had failed to account for large quantities of poison gas and anthrax. He believed that there was strong evidence that Iraq maintained quantities of anthrax after it claimed to have destroyed its stocks.

According to the UN inspectors' chief, the discovery of empty rocket artillery shells capable of carrying chemical weapons shows that Iraq needs to make concrete efforts to ensure to the U.N. inspectors that its declaration is currently accurate. With the passage of time, it seem that U.S. patience is running out as U.S. President Mr. George W. Bush in his State of the Union address to Congress threatened to attack with full force to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein from power.

While the U.S. forces are in standby position to attack Iraq, it would be wise on the part of present Iraqi leadership to extend full support to the visiting U.N. inspectors, if an extra time given to them by the Security Council, so that UN inspectors should leave Baghdad with their clear minds and without any reservations about Iraq's alleged involvement of possessing weapons of mass destruction.

Iraqi Government should make all possible efforts to avoid a direct conflict with the U.S. forces, so that possible mass destruction of Iraq should be avoided, which may kill thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians, once war is imposed on Iraq.

On the present Iraqi issue of possessing weapons of mass destruction, U.S. has become so adamant that she may use her nuclear capability on Iraq in order to oust Iraqi President Saddam Hussein and to destroy Iraq completely.

This seems to be a last chance given by U.S. to Iraq. War must be avoided at all cost, not only to save innocent Iraqis, but also to save the world from its after affects.

Government of Pakistan should use its diplomatic channels to convince U.S. Government not to invade Iraq, but to find a peaceful solution, so that in case if Iraq is possessing weapons of mass destruction, she should be disarmed, without entering into a war with the U.S., to avoid any possible bloodshed of the innocent people in the region.

+Number of steps should be taken by Pakistani government immediately to thwart possible US war against Iraq.

1 - Stress for seeking political solution to Iraqi issue rather than war.

2 - It should send envoys on different countries to mobilize their support against war.

3 - Being a Security Council member, it should voice its support for innocent Iraqi people.

4 - Stress for giving more time to Inspectors as they are not finished with their work in Iraq.

5 - Have a clear cut policy on IRAQ, as it is still unclear where are we standing, if we think that by supporting Iraq, we can anger USA, then its better not to fool Pak. people by some hollow support or by doing some emotional speeches. "
