In my opinion UN is not no more suitable for the Third World countries.

As a matter of fact we should not talk about the future impact, rather we should focus on the present impact of the UN under the present scenario. The UN has lost all its credibility

It could not do anything to stop this war on Iraq, which has resulted in the deaths and permanent disabilities of the innocent people there. I would quote a proverb that fits well for the people of Iraq here, " out of the frying pan into the fire ".

And, in future too the UN will not be successful in dissuading the big fishes from swallowing  the small fishes.

US aggression against Iraq is not a simple war on Iraq; It is a message to the world nations especially for Muslim countries that there is the will of mighty America that will prevail.

Well, Having attacked Iraq without the sanction of the UN, it has been proved that there was only U of US and rest only NO.

UN had so far been exploited to please American government and its hawks. I think this is the first time that Nations sitting in the UN Security council took a bold step to lend their support to the US. At least they made action of US illegal and immoral.

Therefore, if UNO has no constructive role then there is no need of UNO to exist anymore and its political role should be ended forth with and only agencies doing humanitarian good should be retained. In this way, at least countries will be saved from the use of the UN by the US against them.

The credibility of the UN has undermined by none other than the UN itself. The invasion on Iraq by USA is a consequence of that “lack of credibility” not the cause of it.

The UN organization "earned" noble price for peace not too long ago, and since then has failed to stop two wars. UN Secretary General has always been shameless. He never stood up to resign at the stage when Israeli government did not let the UN inspectors to visit Jenin after a massacre there. It is irony thatthe organization is just watching the war on the TVs mounted inside the UN premises ... aired by the US channels. Did someone hear the word resign?

The unilateral US attack on Iraq has undermined the credibility of the United Nation and has given a way to the powerful nations to threaten their small neighbors.

The US has shown that the UN lacked credibility to enforce the goals of world peace.  For Libya to oversee human rights and Iraq to oversee disarmament is a joke.  The US did the right thing and now the world has to review the spineless acts of cowardice that the US did not engage in.

What is fascinating is how well the war is going.  While Iraqis are not surrendering in as large numbers as last time, they are surrendering.  They can't surrender in as large numbers because the army is so much smaller now.

In addition, as Iraqis continue to die because their leader forces them to take arms against the coalition or get killed by their own people, the Iraqi Himmlers can continue to say "patriotic resistance" is holding up the coalition.  This, of course, is pure garbage.  Suicide bombers?  Kamakazi fighters didn't help Japan, and are hardly held in high regard by historians today.
The farce of the Arab world is our inability to face up to our own shortcomings.  We continue to lie to ourselves about what we want to believe about the world, regardless of how idiotic it is.  We say we hate Saddam, but we hate the people who finally come to remove him more?  This is pure idiocy.  Let us finally join together with the rest of the world, and we will rise once again to prominence.  By engaging in continued hatred of the West, we continue to make ourselves irrelevant.

The poll on the front page is missing a fourth choice:  that the coalition forces are meeting their aims.  By framing the question a certain way, you continue to perpetrate the very lies that I mentioned in the previous paragraph, and further dig the well in which we shall all drown.

UN is just a puppet in the hands of the US government; they use it when they want to. Shame on the rulers of Muslim countries who allow this to happen in our lands-our Muslim lands.

That the reasons for war on Iraq and subsequent intentions of the so-called 'allies' are clear, I humbly propose that it is the time for countries like Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Egypt, Bangaldesh, Malaysia, Indonesia and perhaps Turkish States like Azerbaijan, Kazakhisten and Uzbekistan to finally give up their ' Western Style Pragmatism' and form comprehensive cooperation treaties.

In this situation of war, whole Muslim countries Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arab, Pakistan, Syria, Urdan, Yaman, etc especially China and Russia should get united and convene an emergency conference on this issue that what will they have to take steps against US war in Iraq, because individually no country can do what it wants.

If the group of Islamic countries will be united, assuredly we can do properly & powerfully, what we will think and want.

I salute to the honourable president of Iraq Saddam Hussain over his valour and courage and his stand in war. It is a fact that he has done mistakes in past but these mistakes can be pardoned as "to err is human".

If the international community or United Nation close its eyes on the massacre of Iraqi people by America and still International Community support the US, then why can't the Muslim Ummah forgive Saddam and stand by him? I believe that United Nation has now no right to bear this name as "U.N.O"

It would not be justified to say that the UN has lost its credibility, or the UN has become irrelevant, weak and should be abolished. The UN still has a very vital role to play.

I don't have any trust on UN so what can I say about its role.

Wake up Muslims; see what happens and where we are. Analyse yourself, your activities
Media is supposed to be a weapon for countries against any thing. Just trying to use this source and motivate peoples then see the result.

UN had no credibility right from the beginning. The US unilateral declaration of a
fictitious war against Iraq has questioned the UN authority and it's future
role. Furthermore, the UN seems paralyzed, not even having the nerve to
condemn the US and ask for an immediate halt.

Credibility? Out of the question. It's only a pro-Zionist organization.

UN is a dead organization. This organization was silent for a week, while so-called allied forces carried out their attack in Iraq.

Dr. Ashraf Khan

The coalition forces, particularly US High Command made a mistake in reading Saddam Hussain and Iraqi people. They thought that like Afghanistan, people of Iraq would come with flowers to well come them. Iraqis came with AK47 rifles to greet USA and allies forces.

Also the Allied Forces thought that they will subdue the Iraqi forces in no time and it was a blunder. Without having an Air Cover, no navy, still Iraq is giving a hard time to the allied Forces to prevail on the. And, if it continues like this then coming hotter months of April through August will cook the Allied in desert oven.

The most important lesson in this war is that No Power, how powerful it may be, can not subdue a force which is ready to sacrifice every thing it has. No one can fight some one who is ready to give up his life; one can only fight that person who wants to remain alive. We Pakistanis are hearing for a long time that after Iraq will be Iran, Syria, North Korea, and then Pakistan.

If Pakistanis are ready to sacrifice every thing in order to preserve their identity and freedom, then no power-big or small-can even dare to cast an evil eye on Pakistan. Being a nuclear power, we should have the capability to eliminate our enemies from the surface of the earth.

Unendorsed by the UN, the unilateral US action on Iraq is a deplorable and cowardly act of a super power to show its muscles to a weaker competitor, reflecting a lust for totalitarianism.

American decision to attack Iraq rendered the United Nations worthless and insignificance organization.
The UN has now no credibility at all, because any country can take same step like America did and call it legitimate.

Shahzad Aslam

With this "war on Iraq" to start, the presence of UN after the post-war scenario will be quite difficult to justify and answer mainly because the scenes like this
will be continued to repeat by such Allies in the future as well.

Yes, it is true that no one can deny the importance of UN, which has been doing a lot of welfare tasks for the mankind except ensuring peace in the world. Therefore,
I would suggest UN role should be limited to welfare tasks only and all other its departments be removed like "Security Council" from its agenda.

The world peace can be guaranteed only if each and every person on this earth has enough courage and power to speak out and act against oppressor’s brutal tasks,
otherwise every institution having peace as its agenda will be of no use.

The war has blown to pieces the credibility, viability and impartiality of the UN. In all decency this puppet organization should now cease to exist immediately.

UN has lost its credibility after US/UK attack on Iraq. There is no need of any UNO because rich countries fee UN and they manipulate it.

It is high time for all Muslim countries to quite UNO and makes their own union otherwise after Iraq it might be turn of Pakistan.

This is very clearly understood today that UN is an organization owned by those who want weaker nations to serve them and not to venture questioning their actions no matter what the nature of them is. UN is proved to be a useless organization, which has badly failed to play a critical role in putting halt to the on-going war in Iraq initiated by Pentagon having prior endorsement from the UN.

UN had lost its credibility much right from the beginning when it comes to withstanding security and peace in the world.

The US unilateral declaration of a fictitious war against Iraq has questioned the UN authority and it's future role.

Furthermore, the UN now seems paralyzed, much as having no nerve to condemn the US and dare to bar the war against Iraq.

In core, it's only a pro-Zionist organization.

I have a serious concern. Media is supposed to be a weapon for countries against any thing. Why would you say US air base in Pakistan?

Sana

United Nation as an organization is a total farce. The UN is an American controlled reckless entity dictating the fragile nations since it's establishment. It had no credibility as an impartial international organization but rather considered an American-centered enforcer.

The US talks about Iraqi defiance on UN resolutions, whereas the US itself has desecrated the UN's credibility by launching the unilateral attack on Iraq. This double standard and illegitimate action by the US has resulted in turmoil within the United. The United Nation's integrity and existence is now much at stake, since every nation might be considering taking concerned matters in their own hands. It is high time the countries across the world reconsidered their memberships in protest until the US is accounted for.

The UN is another ineffective, bureaucratic body created and controlled by the United States. The fact that only fifteen countries out of the 200 or so have final authority on the matters of international security and it is a great flaw in this organization that Roosevelt and Truman created to have international approval for American imperialist policies.

Economically stable countries such as Germany and Japan have no permanent say in the Security Council, while countries with crumbling economies and poor human rights records like China and Russia have been awarded veto power and final jurisdiction. The UN has no authority whatsoever in international politics. Either it supports the United States' actions, or the US ignores it and it does nothing. Credibility? Yeah right!!!

Arsalan Rizvi,

US attack on Iraq has not only undermined the credibility and authenticity of UN but has also raised a big sense of insecurity among smaller states whose interests could clash with US. WHAT IF US TOMORROW? UN is simply irrelevant, as it always was but now its obvious.

This war has also given a clear lesson: never destroy your weapons.

Unsanctioned by the UN, the US-led assault in Iraq clearly tells that they (Jews and Christians) want to wipe out Muslims around the world. Our holy book of Quran says the same thing as: "Jews and Christians can never be the friends of Muslims".
So all Muslims should get united and take all possible steps to steps against this aggression and violent war against the Muslim nation and should not help these countries in this war because maybe we might be the next target.

US has attacked Iraq without having any endorsement of the United Nations Security Council. Today U.N. has been brushed aside by the United States Government, just by one single stroke.

Secretary General of United Nations in protest should resign immediately. To restore the credibility of United Nations, it has now become the prime responsibility of its members to table a resolution in the next United Nations Security Council's meeting to revoke the permanent membership of United States from U.N.

War on Iraq should open the eyes of Muslim States and their "irresponsible
and ineffective" leaders with the exception of few. UN has become
irrelevant.

United Nations is dead, only pronounced now. It was always a kind of puppet. Except doing the limited welfare efforts for children and health, politically it was a hostage of the superpowers.

The unilateral action taken by the USA and the UK to attack Iraq will have far-reaching consequences. Firstly, it will definitely pave the way for the aggressing nations to terrorize and attack the others.

As long as the USA remains the super power and the World’s policeman, the situation shall not change. In fact it will go from bad to worse.

N.M. ABBASI

US-led attack on Iraq has starkly ruined the credibility of United Nations. No country would now seek UN's approval for carrying out hostile activities against rival country. UN should instantly shut down its operation after facing US violation of its regulations, as it has lost it's conscience and values.

This attack should be taken as lesson by Muslim countries to sit together and find a solution for their nations solidarity and integrity in the long term.

USA's unilateral action against the wishes and resolutions of the UN has virtually caused the UNO to lose its credibility.

In other words, the existence of the UNO is now questionable, if it doesn't bring the offender(s) to justice.

The attack on Iraq by the US is unjustifiable and illegitimate and flagrant violation of UN’s resolutions. This attack is a crime against humanity as well.

If UN does not take any action or does not stop this attack, then there will be dire effect upon its power and existence and one would doubt its being.

After the failure of United Nation in the peaceful resolution of Iraq issue, the international credibility of the United Nation UN is similar to the value of League of Nations after the world war.

This failure has made it clear to the international community that now their is no power greater then the power of USA.
